June 2009 Mix Set

Here is your monthly dose of fresh electronic music. This months mix set is a nice mixture of great new tracks from labels like Mule Electronic, Cargo Edition, Millions of Moments, Wolfskuil, Look Long as well as some of my all time favorites from Poker Flat and Trax Records. This set's featured artists are Tokyo Black Star, James Barnsley, Sven Tasnadi, Audiofly X, Anthony Collins, Channel X, Ribn, Peace Division, Steve Bug, The Rude Boys of House, Darko Esser and Donnacha Costello.

May 2009 Mix Set: A look in her eyes

Good house music is timeless, so would like to take the chance to post a mix set, which I did some time ago. The set primarily focuses on deep house with some tracks having nice arranged vocals. A special glance is given to Charles Webster who's remixes I really like. This guy has an incredibly long list of high quality contributions, which it is worth to mention.

The Great Pokerflat Night @ Centrum

The May is going to be hot for the Erfurt located club Centrum. The former warehouse and today's club in the center of the East German city is hosting a very special night of house music. No one less then Steve Bug is going to play on the 16th of May, celebrating once more the 10th anniversary of his own label Poker Flat. He is spinning the wheel on the main floor, along with DJ and producer Donnacha Costello, who contributed great tracks to Steve's label and is very well known for the deep and formidable tracks on his own label Minimise as well as Sven U.K., whos great track "O Moresi" was part of Steve's third Bugnology drop in late 2008.

Not that this is enough to celebrate. The Centrum recently also celebrated its 10th anniversary and will do so on this date for sure. I'm looking forward for this special event in the mid of May.

February 2009 Mix Set

Here is the brand new mix set I did a few days ago. It mostly features tracks from records just released as well as some older tracks from 2008. As last track I added a special record that's you can see as a kind of tribute to French producer and DJ Laurent Garnier. It's his deep house classic "The man with the red face" from 2000. I've just bought it used some weeks ago, but I was looking for it for quite a while now. The track is a 9 minute deep house bomb with a gorgeous, significant saxophone line and an arrangement of patterns and jazz elements which grow with so much energy and feeling.

Well, I haven't posted anything since a while. Sorry for that! No, I wasn't lost in Switzerland. The main reason actually was my move to another city. I still don't have all of my music equipment moved over. The majority of my 12" collection is already packed, but I haven't found time to move it over.

Anyway, in the meantime I had some time to think about the future concept of Magic Through Music. The blog concept will remain. However, I decided to take thinks to the next level and want to rise Magic Through Music to a collective of artists, basically musicians. This means, that in the future, you will also find music, DJ sets and event dates of other musicians here. This also means, that I will build out the website with an artist section.

Just a quick note, that I will have a DJ gig in St. Gallen, Switzerland this Saturday. Feel free to come, if any of you are in this area. The event is called 30years0hope @ Pfadiheim Pro Patria. The party is starting early at around 8 pm. I'm still not sure when exactly I'm going to play. Anyway, come around and find out!

The most of you might know, that last weekend was very special for me. Except spinning records on both, Friday and Saturday I've celebrated my birthday along with my friends, which was the actual reason for me to play on these days and to give a party for two days.

Friday, 20.6.2008:

The second part of Cafeteria Electronique @ Freizeit Lounge on Friday was a great night of tech-house and techno tunes. I played early from 9:30 p.m. in order to have some time to chat, dance and celebrate with my friends afterwards. A lot of them were coming on Friday, so it was a real challenge for me to chat to everyone.

My intention was to play some special tracks at the end of my set at around 12 a.m. The last track I played was Dixon's remix of Henrik Schwarz' and Amampondo's "I exist because of you", a track I recently incorporated into my Summer Mix Set and one of my most favorite house records at the moment.

Saturday, 21.6.2008:

The open-air location Zebra was a nice selection to went on partying at Saturday, where we started earlier than on Friday. B_nito and me were rotating to spin records from around 7 p.m. Musically this night was a little more house oriented than the night before.

The atmosphere was really good! It was amazing to play some of my favorite tracks into the dusk of a clear and sunny day. From 12 a.m. we move indoor with a small but sexy and intimate dancefloor. For my longer set at that night I selected a few older house and tech-house tracks from the late 90's and early 2000, which have gone well.

This weekend was pretty amazing! Thanks to all people who were participating in this and who were making this weekend very special. Thanks for special and surprising guests, for the presents and for special moments of love! And a special "thank you" goes to my friends who were spending these days along with my! You are so important!

Nightlife Repair Session

Short-term gigs are incredible! Despite the fact that you don't know what you can expect from the night, you are not prepared for what could happen - musically and socially. Last night it was like this. A friend asked me to join him to spin some records at his club. Nothing special though, just a smaller session, testing some new tracks, you know.

Well, the night turned out into a great journey that Kalei-doskop and me were using to record a nice one hour ping pong set. Everyone, who already played records together with someone else, either doing ping pong or just rotating knows that this can become very hard, since you cannot simply play your style by hook or by crook. You either fit together or you don't. This was, of course, not the same like playing a 8 hour set ping pong, but I think for the first time our experiment was very successful.

Addition: There were also very strange people last night. Friendly but really strange. A guy asked me, whether I couldn't play tracks in 4/4-beat. This is so funny, because he was moving head and legs for one hour to tracks that are all 4/4-beat. *g*

Then on the way home I walked through the city and three of these guys were crossing the road. All of them drunken. They noticed me from far away, shouting "Hey, this is the DJ." and said that I've played bad when they were passing me.*g*

May Mix Set

I'm back with the monthly mix set. The May selection again features many '08 releases, a couple of freshly squeezed tracks and some back catalog tracks. While the whole mix remains dance floor oriented, it moves towards some deep, but still hot grooves before it rises to a great finish. I hope you like it too! Your feedback is very welcome :)
